With just over 2 months until Dot To Dot and the weather finally resembling summer, it’s the perfect time for floating along with headphones on.
Introducing the D2D Mixtapes, a series to get to know bands on our line-up a little better, as they create a 10-song playlist and talk us through their choices. First up is Liverpudlian indie pop quartet SPINN: we caught up with the band fresh from the release of their superb new EP ‘Daydreaming (listen here).
THE MOST RECENT TRACK YOU RELEASED
The most recent song we released is called ‘Daydreaming’, it’s a song that I really love, we recorded it about 3 times and could never get it to sound how we wanted it to. 3rd time lucky I guess because it’s now a certified rammer.
A SONG THAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME AN ARTIST
My friend lent me The Beatles Anthology when I was revising for my GCSE’s, I spent most of my time listening to it instead of revising. It blew my mind and I’ve never quite recovered. I wanted to start writing tunes from then, I always remember this track sticking out to me for some reason.
A SONG FROM THE BEST BAND YOU’VE SEEN LIVE
Every single aspect of their live show is brilliant. The first time I saw them play ‘Love Me’ live, it was like being hit with a bolt of lightning. Brilliant.
A SONG FROM YOUR TEEN YEARS
I adore this song, it takes me back to being 15. Driving through fields of tulips on a school trip to Amsterdam with this playing in my headphones. Very bittersweet.
A SONG YOU’D ENTER A BOXING RING TO
I feel like something must have gone terribly wrong if I was to ever find myself in a boxing match. I like to hope that in my last moments, before being beaten to pulp in front of a paying audience, I’d find solace in the fact that the protagonist of this song was also once just an innocent musician who has been compelled into combat by forces greater than himself.
A SONG THAT WOULD PLAY IN THE TRAILER OF YOUR BIOPIC
I’m not sure why, but this song just feels like the right one.
A SONG YOU’D PLAY TO ALIENS
The aliens deserve to be happy too. They need to hear this one!
A SONG YOU’VE ALWAYS WANTED TO COVER
I think this is a truly truly beautiful song about flawed people in a flawed love. I’ve thought about covering it a tonne of times but never got around to it, who knows, maybe we will one day.
A SONG FROM THE ARTIST YOU ARE MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO CHECKING OUT AT D2D
Oscar Lang is something else, I’m gonna try and get tickets for when he’s playing Liverpool later in the year, so I’m very excited to see him at D2D.
YOUR ABSOLUTE GUILTY PLEASURE
To be honest, I don’t feel a shred of guilt for loving this song, it’s a great tune. Society needs to change, not me.
